However, in his training as a Jedi, Lanius developed a strong ability to sense the future through the Force, an ability that was commented on even by Jedi Master Yoda. Lanius used more and more of this ability when he took charge of the Academy to focus on disturbances he felt in the Force. These disturbances took up more and more of Lanius' time, distracting him from his other duties as he tried to find the sources of the disturbances. Although some students questioned if Lanius was starting to lose his mind, Lanius was simply concerned with the forces at work that might need the Jedi's attention.
